While IQ scores are rising at a remarkable rate, there is still a question whether our generation indeed get smarter or we simply have a larger platform of accessible knowledge and technological advances.

In the mid-1980s, James Flynn made a groundbreaking discovery in human intelligence. The political scientist at the University of Otago in New Zealand found that over the last century, in every nation in the developing world, IQ test scores had significantly risen from one generation to the next.

Hm.. Do you think it has to do something with not being able to properly measure the IQ level back then?

I don’t think so.

Flynn and many other researchers suspect that rising IQ Scores reflect improving modern environments. IQ is part heritable and part environmental. New generation has significantly more opportunities to learn, hence they will have higher IQ. Also we get better education which pushes us to constantly find new ways to stimulate our mind. It all results in having more knowledge as a base which differs us from the previous generations.

As people get smarter each generation so the software does.
